This spa, standing in a tranquil spot on the banks of the River Miño, clearly displays its condition
as a health centre. Although it used to be claimed that its waters were even more beneficial if taken with
donkey’s milk, this last ingredient has now been foregone, but its spring is more than enough to achieve
recoveries, sometimes almost miraculous ones, especially of respiratory complaints. And not just for elderly
people, but also for the children who attend here every evening to receive their treatment. Its main building,
from 1886, with three floors built wholly from local stone, has cosy rooms with period mirrors and lamps from
the time when spas were holiday destinations for the wealthy classes. The bedrooms are in an adjoining building,
no more than ten years old, which overlooks the vineyards and the fields of cane and corn along the river bank.
