Proof that tradition can be foregone without giving up professionalism and good taste can be found here in this spa right
in the historical centre of Caldas, beside the River Umia, where a stylish refurbishment has added colour and innovation without
the site losing its atmosphere of bygone days. The fireplace, which is still lit in winter, is a welcoming invitation to read or
chat while, on the other side of the window, we can see the tree-tops of an incredible cane plantation, apparently seeded at the beginning
of the 19th century by an ancestor who visited the Philippines and who is probably responsible for the building’s colonial feeling,
from 1780. This is now the sixth generation of the same family to occupy this spa standing above a spring that was probably used as far back
as the Celts, so the desire to conserve anything conservable can be noticed in every corner: the period furniture, the mirrors,
the bevelled glass doors, the lamps and even some of the breathing apparatus; all restored and perfectly operative. Among its peculiarities
are the high temperature of its waters, 48°, the fact that its small thermal pool must be reserved for bathing accompanied only by the people
you want, or that, because it stands on the Camino de Santiago, it is traditional to wash your feet in its waters or in the font at the entrance.
